In late September, we met in Rome. I was coming from a Scotland conference and exploration, and Lorna was flying in from Seattle. We had been in Italy in the spring before, and we had been longing to return. We decided to do an autumn trip this time, and we had a little more than two weeks. For this trip, we decided to rent an apartment in Siena as our home base, and then to take daytrips out to the surrounding towns, using a rental car.
